MGM Grand Detroit (1777 Third Street, Downtown) is the largest casino complex in Michigan — 100,000 square feet of gaming, multiple restaurants, a hotel with a rooftop pool, and a spa. It’s the most Vegas-adjacent experience Detroit offers.
Best restaurant: Wolfgang Puck Steak. Dry-aged beef, tableside preparations, serious wine program. The room doesn’t feel like a casino restaurant — it’s a legitimate special-occasion dinner spot that happens to be attached to a casino. Book in advance for weekend nights.

Gaming floor: Largest in Detroit. Slots, blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, and a dedicated poker room. If you’re a serious table game player, MGM has the most variety and the highest table limits.
Hotel: 400 rooms, rooftop pool (open seasonally), full fitness center, spa. Rates are competitive with the standard downtown Detroit hotel market — often lower than what Marriott or Hilton charge nearby.

MotorCity Casino Hotel
MotorCity Casino Hotel (2901 Grand River Avenue, near New Center) is the most design-forward of the three — built in a converted warehouse with a Detroit-industrial aesthetic. It sits about 1.5 miles from Downtown, which makes it slightly less convenient for combining with the rest of the city, but it has something the other two don’t: a world-class live music venue.
Best restaurant: Iridescence. On the 15th floor with panoramic Detroit views, Iridescence is the most celebrated casino restaurant in Michigan. Contemporary American menu, extensive wine list, and a view of the Detroit skyline that’s genuinely impressive on a clear night.

Live music — Sound Board: A 2,000-seat concert venue inside the casino complex. National touring acts, comedy shows, and tribute nights. The acoustics are legitimate. Catching a show at Sound Board before or after dinner at Iridescence is one of the better date nights in Metro Detroit that most people don’t know about.

Greektown Casino Hotel
Greektown Casino Hotel (555 E Lafayette Street, Greektown) has the best location of the three — in the middle of Greektown, 10 minutes on foot from Ford Field, and walking distance from the Detroit Riverfront. The casino floor is smaller than MGM or MotorCity, but the neighborhood around it is the real reason to choose Greektown.
Best use case: Combine it with Greektown dining. Eat on Monroe Street — Pegasus Taverna and Cyprus Taverna are both within a block — then walk into the casino for the evening. Or pair it with a Lions or Tigers game, both within walking distance.

Hotel: Smallest of the three properties, but rates are frequently the lowest and the location is unbeatable for a Downtown Detroit weekend.

Detroit Casino Night: A Full Itinerary
6:30pm — Check in. Drop your bags, change if needed, have a drink at the hotel bar. Don’t go straight to the gaming floor hungry.
7:00pm — Dinner. At MGM: Wolfgang Puck Steak. At MotorCity: Iridescence (reserve weeks in advance for weekends). At Greektown: skip the casino restaurant and walk one block to Monroe Street for Pegasus or Cyprus Taverna. Budget $60–$120 per person for a proper dinner with drinks.
9:00pm — Gaming floor. Set your budget before you walk in — $100–$200 is a fun evening without regret. Walk the floor first before sitting down. Blackjack is the best house-edge game for new players. Craps has the best energy if you want the crowd experience.
11:00pm — Late drinks or entertainment. Casino bars stay open late. If you’re at MotorCity and there’s a late show at Sound Board, that’s your best option in the city. At Greektown, the bars on Monroe Street are still going.
